Information, Advice and Guidance

“We are here to help you!”

Young people now have to make more decisions and choices about their lifestyle, education and future careers than any previous generation. Never before has the need for good information, advice and guidance (IAG) been more essential. Students can access advice from their teachers, mentors and Heads of Year about a range of matters from problems in lessons to bullying incidents, but support can also be accessed from the following areas:

  • The Pathways Co-ordinator can provide information and support on a range of issues, including Sixth Form Applications, Apprenticeships, Options, Work Experience, Work Related Learning and Enterprise. The Pathways Co-ordinator can be found in the Library on the Heads Lane site.
  • Connexions provide information, advice, guidance and support to all young people aged 13-19. There are two advisors available in the school.
  • The Careers Personal Advisor offers impartial information, advice and guidance on a range of issues but specifically on careers, jobs, training, further and higher education finance including EMA and options after Year 11.
  • The Generic Personal Advisor offers help and support on issues such as difficulties in school, relationships, drug / alcohol, housing, bullying, sexual health and money matters.

You can make appointments to see advisors through Heads of Year or Pastoral Managers or the Pathways Co-ordinator.

  • The School Nurse is employed by the Health Service and is available to all young people. You can ask your Head of Year or Pastoral Manager for an appointment with the School Nurse. Alternatively you can contact the School Nurse on Monday lunchtimes (Heads Lane site) or Wednesday lunchtimes (Boothferry Road site) at the health drop-ins.
